This book is split into two parts, the first part explains the life of Elizabeth and her siblings. Her sister is kidnapped by the goblin king; who tells Elizabeth she must beat his games to rescue her sister. After Elizabeth wins back her sister she is left with a choice, she can leave the goblin realm and let the world be in eternal winter, or stay with the goblin king to prevent that. The second half of the book is Elizabeths time with the goblin king. She learns that the longer she's there, she loses more of herself to power the goblin king. He refuses to touch her or use her musical talent, as he is afraid that she will fade too fast. In the end he lets her go. This book is very music based, as Elizabeth is a composer. I enjoyed this book, I couldn't put it down. The ending almost had me in tears. I'd rate this 5 stars. If you enjoyed Labyrinth you'll enjoy this book.
This poem is set in the time of the witch hunts ( February 1692 - May 1693 ). Many young women and midwifes were killed during this time period. I like this poem because in the tenth stanza the tone shifts to a more desperate tone. It's a rather sad poem, but it shows how ruthless history was. She was sentenced to death for how attractive men found her and the wives couldn't do anything to stop their husbands. These trials mostly took place in colonial America ( Salem village, Salem town, Ispwich, Andover ). This poem has a lot of feeling in it, it has a more melancholy tone to it. There is an ABAC rhyming scheme in each stanza.
I recently went to see beauty and the Beast, it has a 4/5 star rating which I agree with. This film was very similar to the animated original, the songs, setting, and dialogue were very accurate. The intro to the movie had better insight to the prince and his curse, than in the animated film. The narrator described the prince as selfish and only liked things and people of beauty. When he refused to house the beggar woman she cursed him to be a beast as he only loved things of outward beauty. Many of the scenes from the original movie had added content which gave them more depth, which I personally liked. When the beast was dying, the servants also started to turn into lifeless objects. I enjoyed this movie, I loved the soundtrack, and the settings were beautiful. I would recommend this film.
This book is written by Sarah J. Maas and it is a wonderful start to a series. It has a 4/5 star rating and I agree with this rating as it's only really the beginning of the story. The story is based off Beauty and the Beast, and just like the story we meet Gaston before the Beast. I enjoyed how showed Feyre's developments from being the sole provider of her family, to being able to have fun and smile. In the beginning Feyre held back many emotions and her own pleasures to take care of her family to get them through winter; to relaxing and teaching herself to paint. Tamlin's character is intriguing, as he wants to get to know Feyre, he doesn't really know how to. The first compliment he gave her was evidence of this "You look.... better than before. / And your hair is... clean." Sarah J. Maas writes their relationship realistically, Tamlin took in Feyre to break the curse, Feyre does not want to be with Tamlin (at first), as time goes on they begin to like each other. The amount of detail in this story is enough to help the reader envision the scene without it being overbearing. In the one scene where the faerie is hurt, the author describes how its skin felt in Feyre's hand and how its hair was silky black. My favorite part of the book was when Feyre was completing the tests under the Mountain to free Tamlin. Each test was well written and used Feyre's hunting skills to defeat the worm. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in fantasy/adventure books.
