To what extent should my actions as a citizen be shaped by an ideology?
There are many ideologies in our world today. These ideologies are a basis for people's beliefs and values. Everyone is raised with their parents and society's ideology, but some find different ideologies that they agree with. Ideologies, like people shape us. History has been fuelled by ideologies, which either turned into revolutions or wars.
As a people we decide on the governing body that reflects our beliefs, values, and interests. There are many political parties who cater to a range of ideologies. Even we do not vote it shows where we stand as people. Our ideologies provide insight to how we treat others, and how we should run as a society.
Some groups of people fight for change, as it is what they believe in. Many protests begin due to the belief that the body of government is not doing as well a job as the people believe, or for a change for the better. These groups generally start out peaceful and remain peaceful to prove their point. Others go to violence when peace is not making the point. Sometimes police or military become involved and arrest or attack protesters to end the protest.
Ideologies are inevitable in anyones life and we need to keep within reason, as to not hurt others.
