Tamara Kowalska runs The Windsor Youth Centre she says a large number of youth passing through the doors do not have prescription drug coverage. Kowalska says she has watched young adults get sick and unable to get the proper treatment they need because of financial burdens, but she is also wary about the future risks. "It is very useful for those times that are needed," she said. "I think we need to think very critically about who is this going to benefit the most and why as a society are we not placing a priority on preventative health care." Kowalska said the government should be putting money into subsidy programs from vitamins, psychiatric help and addiction counselling. The program covers more than 4,400 medications for the province's four million children and young adults. Some of the drugs covered include asthma inhalers, insulin, seizure medications, cancer drugs, anxiety and depression medication and drugs for rare diseases. The government projects the program will cost $465 million per year. Although having free prescriptions is a good plan, having it only for those under 25 is excluding a large group of people. Many older people have a large need for medication. Both the NDP and the Liberals have a good mindset for these programs, but it would be more beneficial to combine them. If the amount of medication and the people it covered were put together, then everyone would have access to this plan.

Its good that there is some coverage for kids, however adults need the same medication. This is a good start but there still is more to go.

Great topic choice. Many modern countries have health care programs that cover drugs. Perhaps it is time for Canada to utilize one as well.

This is a good start, but when I'm 25 I'm still gonna need my medicine. It is important for everyone to be able to get the medicine they need. Great topic Carmen!

This is a big change in the pharmacy sector, its hard to believe that the government is going to be able to provide this without keeping out of debt??

This is a great start, but I'm with the NDP on this one. Its awesome to see this kind of practice being talked about and put in place.
